Leisure

Canggu is more than a place to work: between rice fields, black-sand beaches and little cafés there is plenty of life waiting after work (or before your first call). Here are our community’s favourite activities.

🏄 Surfing at Batu Bolong & Echo Beach

With its long, gentle waves, Batu Bolong is perfect for beginners and longboarders – you can rent boards right on the beach and there are surf schools on every corner. A few hundred metres further, Echo Beach offers a more powerful wave for experienced surfers.

Our community meets on Wednesdays at 6:30am for a joint surf morning (example) – followed by breakfast in the Garden Café. Always respect the currents, local etiquette and the lifeguards’ instructions.

🧘 Yoga & breathwork

Canggu has dozens of yoga shalas – from dynamic vinyasa to calm yin. On our Bamboo Terrace there are short morning sessions for members (example schedule), and at sunset on the beach yoga becomes an experience.

🌅 Beach clubs & sunsets

The sunsets on the west coast are legendary. Whether with a coconut on a bean bag on the beach, in one of the relaxed beach clubs between Batu Bolong and Berawa, or quietly on the rocks at Echo Beach: around 6pm the sky turns orange and the surfers ride the last waves.

🌾 Rice-field walks

Narrow paths through Canggu’s rice fields start right behind our building. At seven in the morning, when herons glide over the green terraces and farmers open the irrigation channels (subak), is the best time for a walk or a run. Please stay on the paths and respect the fields – they are the livelihood of many families.

☕ Cafés & food

Canggu is a paradise for coffee and food lovers: specialty roasteries, smoothie-bowl cafés, warungs serving nasi goreng and babi guling, vegan restaurants and night markets. Our tip: try the local warung food – affordable, fresh and authentic.

🛵 Scooter trips

By scooter you can reach the sea temple of Tanah Lot, the quiet beaches of Pererenan and Seseh or the rice terraces inland within 30 minutes. Please only ride with a valid licence (including an international driving permit for motorcycles), a helmet and suitable insurance – and take it slow.

Tip

On the notice board in the Garden Café and in our community group you’ll find joint trips, surf sessions and sunset meet-ups every week. Just ask our community team!
